To help teachers make better use of their time and resources we have vetted and curated for you this collection of educational resources to use in your classroom.

EDGEucating only recommends products that we have fully vetted and believe in as part of our endorsed products list. Outlining Grades 5-8 from Remedia Publications

Teach students how to organize and classify information in easy-to-manage steps!  Outlining introduces titles, main topics, subtopics, details, using an outline to write a report, and outlining a story. The second book covers these topics in greater detail, while introducing how to write paragraphs and reports from an outline, writing an outline from paragraphs, plus using outlines to prepare a speech or a book report.  Creating a written plan that organizes ideas or facts in a logical order.

The 44 lessons in this book will give students plenty of practice with all aspects of Outlining. Exercises focus on the parts of an outline, finding main and sub-topics, writing paragraphs from an outline, creating an outline and then a report, and more.

Busyteacher.org states that developing an outline can actually help students structure and develop their beginning ideas and research while advancing their understanding of the form and topic.  Also, in developing an outline, students become aware not only of their gaps in the organization and development of the essay, but also of gaps in their knowledge and need for further research. Learn how I used this book in my article, 5 Proven Reading Strategies.

With the skills taught in this unit, students will be better equipped to use an outline to write stories and reports.
